Overview
The State of Delaware’s Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control oversees a uniform statewide bioretention soil referred to as Bioretention-14 or B-14 Biosoil. Suppliers must provide regularly updated testing to DNREC in order to be on the department's pre-approved list to supply this product. Bio-Retention Soil is a stormwater management tool designed for the purpose of capturing runoff and reducing damaging surface flooding while also preventing floodwater from entering natural waterways. Bio-Retention Soil reduces runoff rates by increasing stormwater infiltration. This process also removes contaminants such as sediments, nutrients, hydrocarbons, metals and bacteria from stormwater.
