Our TurfDress Compost had a pivotal role in transforming the landscape in the north end of Central Park. The Davis Center cumulated from decades of commitment from the Central Park Conservancy to give New Yorkers a world-class public space. The section returns to the community with a welcoming, accessible facility seamlessly integrating into the restored park landscape. Visitors can now walk the restitute Harlem Meer shoreline, swim in the state-of-the-art pool, enjoy the ice rink and multi-use turf field. The space also has year-round programs including fitness and wellness activities, cultural events, and youth programs.

TurfDress Compost was installed to enrich the soil surrounding the revitalized pool, rink, and expansive lawn area. This help create a thriving, healthy landscape for visitors. As the local blender for rooflite™, we also custom-blended a M3 lightweight media for the green roof. Designed to seamlessly blend in with the surrounding park, it is Central Park Conservancy’s most significant capital project to date. The Big Apple’s newest, innovative landmark restores and reconnects the landscape of the north end of the Park and will continue to do so for decades more.

The Radnor Hunt Race Meet is one of the most prestigious stops along the spring Steeplechase horse racing circuit. With nearly $200K of purse money on the line and the most elite horses racing, the safety and condition of the race course is of utmost importance. The National Steeplechase Association rates the condition of all their race courses on the circuit and Radnor consistently scores 10 out of 10, in both turf quality and soil density. This is because the race director invests in seeding, aerating, and compost topdressing every year.

Compost amended soils promote a deeper, healthier root structure for turf which provides shock absorption and helps prevent divoting and shearing of the turf. This results in preventing slips, falls, and soft tissue injuries not only for horses, but human athletes as well.

Charles Fitzgerald of Grass Management, is known as a wizard of turf and at Radnor, he prefers to topdress with Laurel Valley Soils TurfDress Compost. The flowability of the compost through his topdressing equipment, along with proven results, makes this compost Charlie’s choice for large sports turf applications.

The beautiful turn of the century campus within the Philadelphia Naval Yard complex provided a great canvas for new buildings and landscapes to support Philadelphia’s burgeoning tech and Pharma economy. Knowing the entire landmass is man-made and built from river dredge and mainland soil spoils (with a brackish high water table) means a challenge for landscapes. And that’s not including standard legacy industrial soil contamination issues.

To address these concerns and ensure a successful and functional landscape for the Central Green project, Soil Scientist Tim Craul was brought in. After evaluating the existing soil conditions, he specified a two-layer soil system containing a coarse base layer for drainage to support a more organic root zone planting layer. Together, the soil layers work to support plant life while also maintaining optimum soil moisture and the ability to filter and infiltrate stormwater.

C. Caramanico and Sons spread over 3,000 yards of Laurel Valley Custom Engineered Soil to create Central Green’s “social space”, a six-acre park-like setting. The landscape is a beautiful sanctuary for people to enjoy, play in, and unwind amongst aesthetically pleasing yet functional bioswales and rain gardens, seemingly hidden right before your eyes.

The award-winning landscape was designed by James Corner Field Operations, most recognized as being the Project Lead on NYC’s famous High Line, and is a wonderful example of what the future of urban stormwater management is all about.

Topdressing turf in conjunction with aeration and overseeding is an excellent way to lighten the soil and reduce compaction, which in turn increases both water absorption and moisture retention. Applying Laurel Valley Cyclone Compost also provides organic slow-release nutrients, rich amounts of organic matter and beneficial soil biology. When the health and safety of family, pets and the environment is top priority, compost is the best all around all-natural turf management tool available.

Laurel Valley’s Cyclone Compost was specifically designed for use with blower trucks. It is lightweight, friable and flows through the hopper and hose without clogging. Utilizing a mulch blower truck is the most efficient way to topdress turf for large acreage projects, as well as being handy in residential communities when working in tight spaces between trees, houses and driveways.
